


Student Registration
For the first time students are required to pre-register for designEX 2009. Only students studying an interior design/ architecture/ building construction related course qualify for entry to designEX. Click here to pre-register. Pre-registration is free. If you register at the exhibition an onsite registration fee of $10 will apply for students (Non students incur a $25 onsite registration fee).
You will be required to verify your student status. All pre- registrations and on-site registrations must be accompanied by one kind of Student ID and a letter from your lecturer confirming that you are studying an interior design/ architecture related course .
CPD Points
Claim CPD Points by attending seminars at designEX and Form & Function. As part of this ongoing professional development program attendees to a seminar at either designEX or Form & Function will be entitled to claim 1 CPD Point, granted as part of a'Group 1 activity.' To claim your point(s) simply keep hold of your seminar ticket and receipt, take it to the show office where it will be stamped and your attendance verified.
Children
Please note that for safety reasons, children under the age of 16 will not be admitted into designEX exhibition. Nursing infants in front packs and backpacks are the only exception, prams and strollers will not be allowed inside the exhibition halls. This applies to the children of both visitors and exhibitors. Under no circumstances are any children permitted into the exhibition halls during Move In and Move Out of the show. A free crèche service is provided to visitors to designEX the crèche also provides the use of pouches/backpacks for infants.
If you choose to ignore this advice, you are required to complete a form at the show and in doing so agree to accept full responsibility for the safety and security of the pram/stroller and child within the pram/stroller, and indemnify dmg world media against any potential claims relating to the use of a pram or stroller within the venue. dmg shall not be liable for Claims made by any person (including without limitation, any Visitor, any other exhibitor at the show, the operator of the Venue or any government department or agency), as a result of the acts or omissions of the visitor, Exhibitor, its employees, servants, agents or licensees or anyone else engaged by or acting through or at the request of the Exhibitor (including as a result of the negligence of any of those people).

2009 sees the launch of Observatory, an interactive installation that will see the creative use of textiles, soft furnishings and upholstery to take you on a journey through three distinctive themed areas.
The Central bar is the networking hub of the show where people congregate in a stylish and informal setting. In 2009 the bar will be completely revamped by award winning architect Michael McCann of Dreamtime Australia Design who will leave his design mark on this ever popular area of the show.
The Electrolux Outdoor Room with Jamie Durie ™, a collaboration with Patio Landscape Architecture and Design, is an extremely popular attraction at designEX. This zone encompasses an Outdoor Cinema feature area, designed and built by Jamie Durie and his team, as well as a number of exhibition stands all showcasing the latest outdoor products and innovations.
Latitude brings together a unique collection of cutting edge products selected from the most recently recognised Australian design talent. Latitude will showcase a compilation of award winning, media recognised, fresh to market designs. Vote in the ‘Latitude People's Choice Awards’. Latitude will reveal the imaginative work of up-and-coming designers as well as new, inspired pieces from more established designers.
Architectural and building solutions; in every way, shape and form.
Form & Function, Australia’s premier event for the building & architectural industry, is co-located with designEX and the 2009 National Architecture Conference. Visitors to designEX gain automatic entry into Form & Function. If you are an architect, builder, building designer, property developer, engineer or tradesperson, then this is a must attend event.
design for sustainability is an exciting and innovative attraction at designEX and Form & Function. This innovative feature returns for the third year and will showcase the latest sustainable products and pioneering services for the architectural, design and building industries. In 2009 the feature has been developed with a new concept and design and is supported by Sustainability Victoria and Design Victoria.
All exhibitors are invited to submit products for the highly coveted and respected New Product Awards. Shortlists of entries are displayed at the show in the New Product Showcase.
Come and see the new innovations entering the Australian marketplace. All have been released into Australia at the show or no longer than six months prior. All products are in full commercial production (as of 30th April 2009) and are not prototypes.
A gallery of work from the entrants of the DIA Student Awards will be on display at designEX. This year’s theme is ‘sustainable design: design for the environment’. All entries must demonstrate a significant awareness of environmentally sustainable design practice, as this is one of the main judging criteria. These students represent the future of our industry and give a fresh insight into design of tomorrow so make sure you see the work on display.
The Australian Institute of Architects Bar, located in the centre of Form & Function is the social hub of the show where architects from the 2009 National Architecture Conference will gather to network and share industry insight.
In 2009 the bar will be revamped and we have enlisted renowned architect Chris Bosse of LAVA to design the bar using the MakMax Architectural Membrane.
Make sure you stop by this striking bar for a refreshing drink and see how MakMax and Chris will transform the bar with this revolutionary product.
Visit the ECO SENSITIVE SMALLisSMART HOUSE at designEX to see how a one bed- roomed house can be designed, fully fitted and furnished for under $50,000. The aim of this project is to develop low cost, quality housing using shipping containers for the under-privileged members of the community. The SMALLisSMART HOUSE prototype which has never been seen before, will show sceptics that living in a container house is not substandard. It is not a slum dwelling.
